Duracell Teddy Bear Commercial
A father gave his daughter a Duracell-powered teddy bear with his recordings as a companion when he is in the military in Duracell Teddy Bear commercial.
This commercial really touched me because it made me empathize with the little girl and the story in the video. By remembering my own childhood moments with my father, I felt a deeper sense of how important companionship is to a child’s growth. My father worked out of town when I was a child and would only come home on weekends. Due to similar experiences, I can empathize with the little girl in the commercial who is increasingly eager for her father’s accompany as time goes by. Parents are an essential part of a family, and they have a profound impact on the growth of children. Therefore, I think the concept of this commercial, which is stay connected, really stick with me.

While watching this commercial, my feelings follow the emotions of the daughter. When she received the teddy bear and heard her father’s voice, I felt surprised and delight. After a long time without the father, I also feel the same loss and longing as the daughter. When the father came back, I was sincerely happy for the girl. This made me think that with the development of technology, the physical distance between people seems to become closer by the recording teddy bears, phone calls and FaceTime. Although frequent communication through technology is not a complete substitute for real companionship, I must acknowledge that these technologies provide a great way to stay in touch with family and friends who are not together. Just like I longed for my father’s company as a child, my parents in China would miss me now because I am away at college in another country. This commercial reminds me the importance of staying connected and made me decide to have more frequent video calls with my parents
This ad appeals to me because it uses a very realistic portrayal of a young girl’s reaction and change. From her excitement when she first received the teddy bear and took it with her whenever she went to school or at home, to her disappointment when she realized that the teddy bear was not a substitute for her father’s accompany. This realistic portrayal grabbed my attention and made me think more carefully about the definition and significance of accompanying.
Companionship is a continuous topic, from the companionship of parents in childhood to the companionship of children in old age, from the companionship of relatives to the companionship of friends and partners. This ad emphasizes the concept of companionship and makes the audience empathize with it through a subtle narrative, that is what makes this ad long lasting.
Duracell Teddy Bear commercial challenge my perception of companionship. As a person who seldom expresses my emotions, I tend to internalize my feelings rather than share with others. But this commercial made me reflect that sharing is also a form of companionship. I will share more of my thoughts and feelings with parents and friends, therefore, building more intimate connections even when we are not together, just as the commercial said,
“The one you trust are always there.”
