WISCONSIN IDEA DEEP EXPLORATION
This project is a comprehensive website showcasing my research on the Wisconsin Idea, a concept that connects UW-Madison to communities throughout Wisconsin and beyond. Created as part of Journ 202, this project took half a semester to complete and required both primary and secondary research. The aim was to apply advanced research skills, gathering a wide range of information to conduct an in-depth exploration of a topic we were passionate about. The Wisconsin Idea became the focal point of my project, as it exemplifies how the university extends its influence beyond the campus to impact the broader community.
This independent project involved extensive research from a variety of sources, including academic literature, online resources, and interviews with key organizations such as Associated Students of Madison (ASM), UW-Extension, and Badger Talks. These interviews allowed me to develop my interviewing skills and gain valuable insights into the real-world applications of the Wisconsin Idea. By speaking with these organizations, I could better understand how UW-Madison's outreach programs directly affect individuals and communities, making the concept of the Wisconsin Idea more tangible and relevant.
The project honed my ability to present research findings in multiple forms of media. I crafted compelling narratives, designed visually engaging listicles, created professional magazine layouts, and produced infographics, podcasts, and videos to enhance the storytelling experience. Additionally, I learned how to build a well-organized, user-friendly website to house all this content, ensuring that it was easily accessible and engaging for viewers.
Overall, this project not only deepened my understanding of the Wisconsin Idea but also strengthened my academic, creative, and technical skills—equipping me with the tools to independently manage comprehensive research projects from start to finish.
